THE STORY

In a city in Java island – Indonesia, there lived an ordinary man who was the devoted father of a son with special needs. Haunted by concerns for his son’s future, he was determined to find a way for him to thrive despite his challenges. He had read extensively and consulted experts on how to care for a child with special needs, but deep down, he knew that empowering his son with a practical skill was crucial. He pondered many potential skills, seeking something that would not only be fulfilling to learn but also accessible for his son to master.

Someday in year 2018, while flipping through TV channels in the quiet solitude of his living room, he stumbled upon a documentary about shoemaking. The artistry and the created shoes  sparked his interest, and after thorough research, he was convinced that shoemaking was the perfect skill to pursue. Eager to dive into this new endeavor, he enrolled in a shoemaking class, collected books on the subject, watching lots of shoemaking videos and apprenticed under a local, experienced shoemaker. Driven by the passion to mastering shoemaker skill, slowly his handmade shoes became increasingly refined. Meanwhile, he worked tirelessly to teach life skills to his son, empowering him day by day. As the years passed, he crafted various classic styles—Oxfords, Derbies, and Chukkas. His cabinet soon overflowed with his creations, which he began gifting to friends and family. They were astounded by the craftsmanship and timeless designs of the shoes and, learning of his motivations, encouraged him to turn his passion into a business.

Motivated by the idea of creating a meaningful life and a sustainable livelihood for his son, he explored the possibility of starting a classic handcrafted shoe business. With the help of trusted friends, he brainstormed ideas, sourced materials, and recruited skilled shoemakers. After establishing a legally recognized company, he named the brand after his son, Pramudya Jochanan. Today, Pramudya Jochanan is known for its traditionally processed, handmade classic shoes. Although it is a relatively new brand, it stands out for its modern take on classic styles. From the exquisite elegance of Oxfords to the rugged charm of Chukka boots, each pair is a testament to meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail. The shoes not only reflect the personal style of those who wear them but also promise to build a legacy of love and dedication.

THE PRINCIPLE

Pramudya Jochanan’s success is not measured by the size of our business or its profitability. Instead, we gauge our success by its economic sustainability, preferring steadiness in prosperous times and resilience in challenging ones. Our journey into shoemaking was not initiated with the ambition to build a large enterprise but stemmed from a deep-seated desire to master a unique craft and pass this skill down through generations. As our endeavor evolved into a business, our primary goal became to ensure that everyone involved feels a profound sense of pride in their work and earns a decent, continuous living.

The inspiration for our journey, and indeed the name of our brand, comes from a dearly loved son. Hundreds of hours and premium materials are invested in each pair of shoes, crafted with the hope that they bring joy to those who wear them. We refrain from calling our shoes the “best”; instead, we focus on the passion, meticulous attention to detail, and durability imbued in every pair. Our shoes are designed not just for wearing but for building legacies—for us and for our customers.

By continuing to craft classic shoes, we aim to preserve the time-honored art of shoemaking. Mastery in this field, like any other, does not come instantly but requires years of learning and practice—from pattern making to sole stitching. With unwavering determination to overcome any obstacle, a shoemaker is not just a craftsman but transformed into an artisan who give all these efforts with profound affection.

We believe that style is a memorable aspect of life, akin to a canvas painted with personality, embodying personal values and leaving a legacy in the memories of those who perceive it. In a world dominated by fleeting trends and conformity, choosing classic leather shoes is an act of courage, a declaration of independence from the norms of fashion, signaling a path uniquely one’s own. For the discerning individual, fashion is not merely a trend to be followed but a statement of appreciation for beauty, durability, and craftsmanship.

Our collection features three main models: the Oxford, Derby, and Boots, each telling a story of tradition and master craftsmanship that carries forward a legacy. The Oxford is the epitome of timeless sophistication, with its classic design and exquisite detailing, it stands as a beacon of formality and elegance. The Derby offers supreme versatility, its open lacing and sleek silhouette bridging the gap between formal and casual attire. The Boots are designed for both adventure and style, offering sturdy construction and versatile appeal, providing protection as well as flair.

These models are available in three variants each. The Oxford and Derby come in whole cut, cap toe, and brogue designs, while the Boots are available in chukka, moccasin toe, and jodhpur styles.
